You wouldn't have to make many changes to her arc, her not having any interaction with the rest of the party, and I think her story would flow better too. I actually feel like she would have worked better as a Confidant only character. It's just that you could cut her out of the story with minimal changes to the plot or group dynamic. I feel like she was a sort of response to the backlash Marie got, who, to be fair, was handled a lot worse than Yoshizawa in my opinion. I think she's okay, her arc in the third semester is pretty solid, and most of her scenes in the main game aren't forced, with a few exceptions. Of the playable characters, she arguably has the least relevance to her own arc. Her only real bond was with Joker, and that bond ends up being pretty shallow prior to the second half of her confidant. She doesn't really get any character development prior to January, and she doesn't interact with most of the cast. She definitely suffers from a lack of relevance in the story prior to the third semester. The thing is, the rest of the Phantom Thieves also do this, so it isn't unique to her. My guess would be that she's there to show how someone can overcome their problems without relying on Maruki's reality. Outside of the obvious "we need a new romance option for the re-release" that is typical of Persona games, I'm not sure.
